Peru’s Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela says Lima is evaluating a proposed memorandum of understanding with the United States on critical minerals. Washington is seeking deeper cooperation on resources, infrastructure, and security, while also competing with China for technological and strategic influence.

The US has shown “marked interest” in Peru’s mineral potential, especially as the country is one of the world’s largest copper producers and holds untapped deposits of other key minerals. China, meanwhile, continues to expand its economic footprint through major investments in mining and logistics.

De Zela stated that cooperation with China does not undermine Peru’s long-standing security partnership with the US. A US security mission led by FBI operations director Jose Perez is also in Lima supporting anti-crime strategy efforts.

#Peru #USPeruRelations #CriticalMinerals

Peru, United States, critical minerals, Peru US agreement, Peru China competition, US China rivalry, mining news, Peru mining sector, global minerals, copper market, mineral strategy, resource security, Washington Peru relations, technological competition, Lima news, Hugo de Zela, US Embassy Peru, FBI mission Peru, organized crime Peru, investment in Peru, China investments, global economy
